Accomplishments

The idea behind Romania Animal Rescue began with a hiking trip in 2001. Since then, we have helped thousands of animals and people, and scores of communities throughout Romania.

We are very proud of the animal rescue work we have been able to provide in Romania. Your donations fund these projects that help the animals and the people of Romania. Our donors are at the very core of each of these accomplishments, and we thank you for your support.

These accomplishments show at a macro level what we have been able to achieve. Read what other people, like donors and volunteers, have to say about us on our Testimonials page. As we get updates on the dogs we have rescued and the progress they have made with their new owners, we let you know in our Where Are They Now section.

Black Sea Rescue

When a dog was struck by a car near a military base, it got the attention of a nearby platoon. The pack mates staying by the dead dog's side that night earned the platoon's respect. A friendship ensued, where dogs and humans passively adopted each other. As the platoon was getting ready to ship the dogs back to America, the dog catchers trapped the dogs and took them to the pound. The platoon followed and confronted the dog catchers, and was able to transport most of the dogs back to the US.

Partnership with Top Veterinarians in Romania

Partnership with Top Veterinarians in Romania

With seven veterinarians on our team who are qualified in high-volume, safe spayeuter techniques, we are able to perform spayathons in more regions throughout Romania. This team has established the Homeless Animal Hospital, which provides modern emergency care for free to stray animals and pets whose owners are too poor to pay for veterinary care. This map shows the places we have helped in Romania. We have provided spayeuter, vet care, adoption, vet training, shelter support, school education, and spay program assessment. Our donors have funded more than 32,000 spayeuter procedures in Romania. This support has helped us reduce the number of litters that get cast to the streets. Our team has performed these spayathons in cities, towns, and rural villages throughout Romania.

Education

Education

Our unique education program has sent US veterinarians to Romania to train local veterinarians in becoming excellent surgeons, using anesthesia and analgesia. The veterinarians have also spayed and neutered hundreds of dogs during their training camps in Romania. We have trained vets all over Romania, including Arad, Galati, Bucharest, Jilava, Sibiu, Cluj/Napoca, Buzau, and Oradea. These newly trained vets have also been given surgical equipment to use for their surgeries.
