Jilava Spay/Neuter

The Jilava shelter is looking to:

  • Spay/neuter 70 dogs at their shelter;
  • Spay/neuter 40 stray dogs near the shelter; and
  • Train the local veterinarian on modern spay/neuter procedures.

The story of the Jilava stray dogs is sadly similar to other cities in Romania. People moved to Jilava to set up local businesses. As the businesses failed, with the turn in the economy, the business owners left Jilava, leaving behind their pets.

These dogs multiplied on the streets and surrounding forest.

Roxana Chirita, Adina Enache, Ana Maria Hutu met the owner of Jilava's shelter, and offered ideas to improve the shelter. They cleared out a lot of the dangerous construction material stored at the shelter, and started treating the animals with vaccinations, dewormers, and feeding them regularly.

We are looking to raise $2420 to cover the spay/neuter of these 110 dogs, and $1500 to train the local veterinarian on using modern spay/neuter procedures. Your donation will help keep the stray animal population from getting worse in Jilava.

Galati Update

I am happy to report that Romania Animal Rescue spayed/neutered almost 250 animals in the city of Galati, free of charge, for the residents and the charity Help Labus on April 5-7. The people in Galati are so pleased! The cost per spay/neuter charged by the vets in Galati is prohibitive to most citizens, and there is virtually no program for spay/neuter offered in that city. We knew we had to help. RAR plans to return to Galati for more spay/neuter help.

Thank you for taking the time to read this newsletter update. I wish all of you the very best, and thank you for your support.
