RAR/ASNI was set up in 2003, following a hiking trip that founder Nancy Janes took to Romania. Having witnessed the problem of homeless dogs firsthand, Nancy set up a charity to help find a solution.
Since then, many more vets and volunteers joined Nancy to make up RAR as we know it today: a dedicated bunch of animal lovers passionate about improving animal welfare and ending animal suffering. We are members of Global Giving, Guide Star, Animal Charities of America, and America's Best Charities.

OUR DOCUMENTARY

Failing to take action results in suffering animals that we are to helping, as we work to prevent the birth of unwanted dogs and cats. There are many ways you can make a positive impact. Learn how you can contribute and take action.
DOGS THAT CHANGED OUR LIVES
On her trip, Nancy met so many homeless, ill, and injured dogs that she decided to do something to help them when she returned to California. Since then, Nancy and the RAR team have helped thousands of dogs and cats. Below are the stories of some of the animals that changed our lives.
